On both ends of the drive shafts (half shafts) in all front-wheel drive vehicles are Constant Velocity joints also known as CV joints. The drive shafts are connected to the gearbox by inner CV joints, while the drive shafts are connected to the wheels via outer CV joints. These are known for their ability to withstand rough terrain, weather, and driving. However, just like any other vehicle part, they are prone to breaking down, especially if not properly maintained and looked after.

CV Joint Explained Further

Over time, CV joints deteriorate. If you need to replace one or both of your CV joints, the full CV joint kits are the best option for you. They come with everything you need to fix the problem. The term 'CV joint' stands for constant velocity joint. Each CV joint rotates at a consistent speed, allowing your car's transmission to deliver power at a varied angle. This lowers friction and play, increasing the economy of your vehicle. The major cause of CV joint failure is dirt and moisture exposure.Joints will corrode as a result of this exposure, and they will be especially vulnerable if the CV boot splits or cracks. When you spin your wheel, you'll hear a clunking sound, and it may also be audible when you accelerate or slow down. Stainless bands, a CV boot, a circlip, a spindle nut, lubricant, and, of course, the joint itself are included in our high-quality CV joint packages.

How can you determine if your car has a faulty CV joint?

If the front end produces a clicking or banging noise when you spin the wheel sharply, you almost probably have damaged CV joints. When you make right and left turns and hear a clicking noise, or when the car is jacked up, the rubber boots on the CV joints are exposed, you know a CV joint is bad. The CV joint, or Constant Velocity Joint, is a very important part of any vehicle since it is essential in providing proper control and manoeuvrability. Most cars' axle assemblies are used to transfer power from the gearbox to the wheels. The CV joint is located in this location. It is a drive shaft that connects to the car transmission at one end and the wheel at the other. They're designed to bend in any direction while still turning the drive wheels at a constant velocity. The excessive use of a CV joint can wear it down, requiring it to be repaired or replaced. However, there are signs that it is breaking down before it completely fails. To notice these indications, one does not need to be a mechanical expert. We'll go through some of these symptoms here. This will assist drivers in detecting a faulty CV Joint beforehand and avoiding costly repairs.

1 - Faulty CV Joint - A Clicking Noise When Turning

This is the most obvious sign that anything is wrong. The CV joint will make a recurrent ticking or clicking sound when rotating. This will be most noticeable while making abrupt turns at modest speeds, as the clicking noise will become excruciatingly loud.

2 - Faulty CV Joint - Vibrations During Acceleration

Another very noticeable indicator observed when driving is that the steering wheel vibrates or shakes violently, especially when accelerating. It's best to pull over or slow down and get to a safe location where you can have it checked right away.

3 – Faulty CV Joint – Growing Humming Noise

This will most likely be in conjunction with vibration as the pace increases. While driving, the car will emit a buzzing noise that will increase with acceleration and decrease with deceleration.

4 – Faulty CV Joint – Clunking Noise When Accelerating

This type of noise is experienced in the vehicle’s inner joints or outer joints. This noise can also be the result of extreme backlash in various gears. One good way to verify this symptom is to put the vehicle in reverse and accelerate. If the clunk becomes even more noticeable, it's a sure sign that the inner CV joint is damaged.

5 – Faulty CV Joint –Vibrations at High Speeds

There might be a number of causes for this vibration to occur, including a loss of balance or improper alignment. However, its occurrence in conjunction with any of the aforementioned symptoms should be regarded as a sure sign of a faulty CV joint.

CV Boot

CV boot constant velocity joints allow a drive shaft to deliver power across a wide range of angles while maintaining a constant rotating speed, with no friction or play. They're mostly found in front-wheel-drive cars.

Driveshaft

A driveshaft, also known as a driving shaft, tail shaft, propeller shaft or cardan shaft is a mechanical component for transmitting torque and rotation that is typically used to connect other components of a drive train that cannot be connected directly due to distance or the need for relative movement.

Propshafts

The propshaft, short for 'propeller shaft,' is a revolving metal tube that transmits torque and rotation to the back axle of a rear-wheel-drive vehicle (equivalent to the driveshaft in a front-wheel-drive car). It is made up of one or two linking sections and goes from the gearbox to the differential over practically the whole underbelly of your car. It must remain firmly fastened while accepting varying movement caused by regular driving's unavoidable twisting and shaking.

Free Collection and Delivery with CV Joint Replacement

Having to bring your vehicle to the garage is sometimes the toughest part of getting it fixed. As a result, we are pleased to provide a free collection and delivery service to our clients. If you schedule a collection, we will pick up your vehicle from your home or place of business, drive it to our facility, do any required work (after consulting with you), and return it to you at the end of the day.

For a modest cost, we can tow, jump start, or repair your car if it is having troubles or has broken down. If we are unable to start your car, we may arrange for a local recovery company to collect it at a very reasonable cost.
